The Castila Spanish Language Learning Centre was founded in 1988. The school is housed in the region’s characteristic “Carmen” garden house in the historic district of Albaicín, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Although the school is located in a quiet area overlooking the Alhambra and the Sierra Nevada mountain range, it is very close to the city centre. All accommodation, whether in a shared flat with other students, an individual flat, with Spanish families, in a hotel, guesthouse or student house, is located within a 15-minute walk from the school.
Castila offers both intensive and profiled courses. In order to best adapt the curriculum to each stage of learning, the school has divided the six levels of language proficiency defined by the Council of Europe into thirty one-week programmes (A1 to C1), as well as into special programmes for level C2. Classes are held in groups of up to six people and the teaching methods are based on a combination of grammar exercises and conversations. All teachers have a higher education degree and are continuously trained by Castila as well as by other Spanish and international institutions. In the field of teacher education, the school cooperates with the the University of Granada and the International University of Andalusia. Castila is accredited by the Cervates Institute and recognised by various international institutions such as CSN (Sweden) and Bildungsurlaub (Germany), 98% of its students pass the DELE exams. The school also offers online courses.
The Castila Spanish Language Learning Centre provides its students with access to the Internet and the school library. It also offers 54 types of extracurricular activities that allow students to discover Spanish culture and customs after classes, but under the guidance of teachers, and to improve their language skills in practice. On weekends, tours of Andalusia are organized.
