Spanish in Andalusia is more than just learning. It's leisure!

Almería

Almeria is the quintessence of Andalusian contrast. It seems unbelievable that one province can accommodate sandy beaches, snow-covered mountain peaks and even a desert. The cultural and archaeological heritage, on the other hand, reminds of the influence of Phoenicians, Iberians, Romans and Arabs.

The must-see attraction of any Almeria tour is Alcazaba, with its long walls of more than half a kilometre retracing the varied topography. Inside the walls, there are military and civilian buildings, a mosque and baths. From Alcazaba, one can enjoy a full view over the city. The coast of Almeria has provided accommodation for Phoenician, Iberian, Roman and Arab civilisations, so its cultural heritage is very diverse and includes even rock art in the Los Vélez cave.

Spanish through nature

Besides clean sandy beaches and mountain flora and fauna, Almeria encompasses the only desert area in Europe. The action of more than one spaghetti western is set in the midst of this incredible landscape!

Spanish through cuisine

Almerian cuisine staples include fish and seafood in all possible forms: fish soups, dishes with rice and vegetables. The province is also famous for growing exotic fruit, which is possible thanks to its subtropical climate.

Spanish on the move

On the coast, especially between Cabo de Gata and the border with the province of Granada, you will find a wide range of possible sports activities, including sailing, diving and golf. The Sierra de Cabrera, Sierra Alhamilla or the Almeria part of Sierra Nevada are mountains that can be explored on foot, by climbing or by cycling.

Spanish through culture

Although traditional reconstructions of battles between Christians and Muslims, called Moros y Cristianos, are organised in many Spanish cities, the medieval-inspired costumes and careful preparation of the feast are particularly impressive in Mojácar. The colourful array of the Almerian crafts includes pottery, ceramics and coloured jarapa rugs.
