In the history of the world, it became famous as the place from which Columbus' first expedition set off. Today it attracts tourists with its beaches stretching for miles, the wildlife of the Doñana National Park and the best Iberian ham.

The great Christopher Columbus statue standing near the Huelva coastline reminds of the role that the province has played in the discovery of the New World. The De La Rábida monastery in Palos de la Frontera, interesting because of its Gothic and Mudéjar style, is visited as the one where Columbus spent his last night before the expedition.

On the Atlantic coast of Huelva, amateurs of all water sports will find something for themselves. The province also has a rich offer of horse, hiking and cycling tourism.

The treasure of Huelva is the Doñana National Park, with its moving dunes, wild white sand beaches and dozens of animal species, including those in danger of extinction. In the northern part, there is a mountain range called Sierra Morena, locally called Sierra de Aracena.

The province of Huelva is famous for the production of traditional Iberian ham. Typical foods also include dishes with mushrooms, fish and seafood, for example calamari with broad beans. For dessert in Huelva – definitely strawberries with cream or honey.

Fifty days after Easter, in Rocío begins the most famous of the traditional Romería pilgrimages: Nuestra Señora del Rocío. It is a very colourful holiday full of joy from spring and the earth’s produce.
