Spanish in Andalusia is more than just learning. It's leisure!

Cádiz

The beaches of Cádiz tempted not only surfers but even James Bond - this is where the scene with Halle Berry emerging from the water took place. It is only 14 kilometers from the southernmost town of Spain, Tarifa, to the coast of North Africa, and the border with British territory, Gibraltar, is not far away.

The province of Cádiz has access to the Atlantic Ocean and the Mediterranean. Swimming, diving and surfing in all their varieties can be practised virtually all over the coast, although it is Tarifa that is famous for the largest waves. If you want to ride a horse, choose Jerez de la Frontera.

Spanish through cuisine

Cádiz supplies half of Spain with fresh fish and seafood, which are also the basis of the local cuisine. The province's desserts and sweets are strongly influenced by the Moroccan neighbourhood. Interestingly, the wine known worldwide as Sherry comes from Jerez in Cádiz and take their name from the city’s name.

Spanish through nature

Around 260 kilometres of beaches, golden sands, coves and dunes are the province's greatest pride, but not its only treasures. Further inland, there are the mountainous areas of the Sierra de Grazalema, declared as a Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO.

Spanish while travelling

The capital of the province resembles an island: the only border with the land is marked by Puerta de Tierra (the gateway to the land). The port character of Cádiz and the city's preparedness for the threat from the sea are visible at every step: the defensive walls and almost one hundred and thirty observation towers. Jerez de la Frontera boasts of many architectural monuments, among which is the outstanding Cathedral of San Salvador. It is also well worth visiting Bolonia, with its preserved ruins from Roman times.

Spanish through culture

Jerez de la Frontera is also home to the Andalusian Flamenco Centre and the famous Real Escuela Andaluza de Arte Ecuestre riding school, where horse riding shows are held once a week. The most famous holiday of the province is Carnival, celebrated lavishly and colourfully, attended by Andalusians from all over the region and very popular among tourists.
